Spring School

There will be a one day Spring School on the first day of the workshop, Monday 2nd September.  The Spring School will offer tutorial lectures by international experts on topics related to the workshop.  The lectures will be pitched at a level suitable for students and researchers who are new to the field and wish to learn the basics in a short space of time.  The topics to be covered will include:
 
 
1. Introductory lectures on the core technology
 
(i) Basics of AOs and adaptive control: Prof. Alexis Kudryashov (Moscow State Open U. Russia)
(ii) Basics of deformable mirrors: Prof. Ulrich Wittrock (U. of Munster, Germany)
(iii) Basics of wavefront sensing: Dr Sergio Restaino (US Naval Research Laboratory, USA)
(iii) Basics of liquid crystals and their use in AOs: Prof. Andrew Forbes (CSIR National Laser Centre, South Africa)
 
 
2. Introductory lectures on applications in medicine and health
(i) AOs in Vision: Prof. Pablo Artal (U. Murcia, Spain)
(ii) Biomedical imaging with AOs: Prof. Gordon Love (Durham U. UK)
(iii) AOs and microscopy:Prof. Martin Booth (Oxford U. UK)
 
3. Introductory lectures on current state-of-the-art AO systems

(i) Turn-key AO systems:Dr Paul Bierden (Boston Micromachines, USA)
(ii) AOs in ultrafast and ultrahigh power lasers: Prof. Jesus LancisSaez (U. Jaume I, Spain)
(iii) AOs in high precision materials processing:Prof.Martin Booth (Oxford U. UK)
