The Polar Cap index ( PC: PCN, northern; PCS, southern) is an index that describes energy input into the polar cap regions from the solar wind. The index is derived from ground-based geomagnetic measurements that have been normalized to insitu satellite measurements of the solar wind. This presentation will describe the index and its usefulness.
