Easy Java Simulations (EJS) is a free, open-source software package written in Java that helps non-programmers create interactive simulations in Java, mainly for teaching and learning purposes. The easy interface and all the built-in tools allows one to quickly build an interactive simulation, which allows one to focus more on the physics behind the phenomena you want to simulate. The online OSP/COMPadre database also has a vast collection of ready to use simulations covering basic introductory physics to advanced quantum and statistical mechanics.
In this presentation the experience and use of EJS in a first year electromagnetism course for mainstream BSc students will be discussed. This involved using EJS simulations as an aid to demonstrate certain basic principles during lectures. Other possible uses of EJS such as student assignments, practical demonstrations and concept testing will also be discussed.
