The practical component of an algebra-based physics course usually comprises of various experiments. During the last three years questionnaires were completed by the first year physics students in order to evaluate the theoretical and practical components of such a course. This paper will explore some of the results of these surveys, focusing especially on the relation between the performance and the experiences of the students. The results will be discussed and recommendations will be made.
