Aim of IMGRAD-1 Conference (23 - 24 September) :
  1. Showcase return of investment of NRF funding of 3 micro-focus X-ray machines at Necsa, WITS and University of Stellenbosch.
  2. Create a platform for discussion of issues of national importance where technology makes a difference in society, particularly quality of living, and benefits the South African research community.
  3. Showcase research opportunities / possibilities / achievements (Researchers and post graduate students have a platform where they can showcase their work).
  4. Create and broaden interest in technology as a non-destructive probe:
    • at HEIs (Higher educational institutes)
    • for national researchers
    • in all applied sciences. (e.g.: Geosciences; Anatomical Sciences; Engineering; Palaeosciences; etc)
    • Commercial and private companies
  5. Share knowledge: Bring together all experts on microfocus X-ray imaging, neutron imaging and Gamma-ray imaging in SA which utilizes these penetrating radiation techniques in many kinds of applications.
  6. Stimulate interaction between academia and industry.
  7. Discuss and/or form a formal National Scientific Society (to host an annual/bi-annual conference): e.g. South African Radiation Imaging Society (SARIS). Incorporating instrument scientists, scientists, researchers and post graduate students who apply and utilize penetrating radiation in imaging such as:
    • X-ray imaging
    • Gamma-ray imaging
    • Neutron imaging
