NEW: REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR CONFERENCE ONLY: 6 September 2013

We are delighted to announce that the 1st conference in a series of biennial events of this nature, IMAGING WITH RADIATION (IMGRAD-1), to be held in September 2013 and every two years thereafter, has been scheduled by the responsible head instrument scientists of the Micro-focus –X-ray CT instruments at Necsa, WITS and University of Stellenbosch. These 3 systems were sponsored by the DST-NRF and came into operation as from July 2011. This is the first time for this kind of event to be held in South Africa with Necsa to be the host in 2013, US in 2015 and WITS in 2017.

The overall aim of the organizers of IMGRAD-1 is to bring researchers, post graduate students and postdoctoral  fellows together to share information and experiences, build new collaborative networks and to strengthen existing relationships between national and international partners in radiography related research (non diagnostic).

FORMAT:
2 DAY CONFERENCE (Unlimited attendance)
3 DAY WORKSHOP on VGStudioMAX Analytical Software (Dedicated visualisation sessions)

In addition to the 2 day conference, a subsequent 3 day workshop is planned for in-depth training with visualization software packages (e.g., VGStudioMAX) used in the analysis and evaluation of image data. Registration for both events is mandatory to obtain dietary needs and as there are only a limited number of seats available for the 3 day workshop.

We look forward to your active participation from 23rd to 24th September 2013 through oral or poster presentations on your work with using penetrating radiation (X-rays, neutrons and gamma–rays) applications in imaging (radiography and tomography). Adequate time will be allocated for poster presentations as quite a number of poster presentations (Posters presented at open days at HEI’s are welcome) are expected.

PUBLICATION IN SA J. of SCIENCE:
The opportunity to publish peer reviewed papers in the South African Journal of Science through attending and participating in IMGRAD-1 is also recommended – your option to do so can be made during the ABSTRACT submission stage.

Included within the conference scientific activities is a visit to the micro-focus X-ray (MIXRAD) facility as well as to the SAFARI-1 nuclear research reactor that hosts the South African neutron radiography (SANRAD) facility at Necsa, located 40km west of Pretoria.
