Future-scaping Synchrotron Light Sources for the Next 10-15 Years: From Accelerators to Data Management
Recent community workshops indicate that the current 4th generation light sources are rapidly approaching their limit in terms of the pursuit of increased coherence and lowering emittance. With the vision for an African light source in mind, the workshop will broadly discuss the scientific drivers and attributes for future generation of lightsources, beamlines, and sample environments. The workshop will address, but are not limited to, the following aspects:
- What are the emerging science in materials science, biology, and medicine that cannot be addressed using current lightsource capabilities.
- Advanced accelerator technologies for enhanced brightness and coherence through.
- Progress in the development of compact synchrotron designs for broader accessibility.
- Implement advanced beamline designs for improved experimental capabilities and versatility.
- New sample environments including multimodal capabilities at the beamlines
- Integration of artificial intelligence for real-time data analysis and optimization. machine learning algorithms for real-time data analysis and optimization of experiments.
- Explore new materials and techniques for better radiation shielding and safety measures
- Foster international collaborations to share resources and expertise.
