The prevalence of Scientific Misconduct and Scientific Fraud is increasing, given the pressures on researchers around the world to produce. The case may also be stated that perhaps there has always been such prevalence but, as we are more aware of what constitutes Misconduct, the reporting has increased.
This presentation is a report on the Combatting Scientific Fraud and Research Irregularities Summit, 2013, held in Sandton in October, 2013. Misconduct, in every way, leads to disastrous consequences and, in certain fields, has led to fatalities.
I will discuss the issues raised at the summit, and the talks that ensued. With the current debate on quality vs quantity in research, the conclusions reached may indeed be of concern.
